Daughter yards are new native plant gardens that are just getting started, or existing gardens that are transitioning from non-native plants to native plants. They are initiated with the support of local mother yards. Mother yards can often supply all of the plants needed to get daughter yards established. As daughter yards build up native plant colonies of their own, they too become mother yards that can share plants with others. It’s a movement that ripples through neighborhoods. It is energized by reciprocity and gratitude.
